At Spring Gully Primary School all teachers from Prep to Grade 6 use the ‘whole class -small group - whole class' approach to teaching reading and writing.
The Senior department uses Literature Circles, Rainbow Reading (a reading program to support low/at risk literacy learners), Guided Reading and Reciprocal Teaching strategies to engage literacy learners.
The Junior and Middle school uses the Rainbow Reading Program, Guided Reading and Reciprocal Teaching strategies to support all students with their literacy acquisition.
Teachers use benchmarking texts to accurately match students to home reading and teacher focused Guided Reading and Reciprocal Teaching texts.
Reading Recovery is also offered at Spring Gully Primary School. This is a one on one reading and writing intervention program for students ‘at risk' in literacy acquisition in their second year of school. The trained Reading Recovery teacher implements the program following Department of Early Childhood and Education (DEECD) guidelines.
