Recent Mathematics Professional Development at Spring Gully Primary School

In September staff at Spring Gully Primary School had a professional development day in Mathematics , with Michael Ymer. Michael is a consultant in a wide range of professional development programs in schools. He provided an enthusiastic and entertaining presentation on the teaching of Mathematics.

His main focus was:

Mixed abilities in mathematics... Coping with under and over achievers in the same lesson.

Incorporating the framework of VELS into the daily mathematics lesson.

Problem Solving...incorporating the " working mathematically " dimension into the daily lesson.

Managing mathematics....ideas to help teachers manage and organize their classrooms in mathematics lessons.

Michael also provided a program for parents in the evening.

The following day Michael taught four demonstration lessons in Grade Prep, Grade 2, Grade 4 and Grade 6 classrooms. These lessons were very beneficial, as teachers were released from their classes at various times to view these lessons to see the theory in practice.
