Our Wellbeing Dogs

Introducing Teddy

in July 2021, we commenced the Dogs Connect program in our school. This is a whole school wellbeing program, which now sees the introduction of Teddy, a fulltime wellbeing dog in our community.  Community Introduction Video (for families)

The success of having Digby at our school since 2017, has been a major reason for expanding our program. Our new school wellbeing dog will become a much loved and important member of our community, just like Digby.

The Dogs Connect program will support us in implementing this very gradually, thoroughly, and considerately. We encourage anyone who would like to know more about this program to look through their website link.

Introducing Digby

In 2017, Digby started coming to SGPS as our Junior School Reading Dog. The aim was to motivate, encourage and improve the capabilities of students with reading difficulties. Reading aloud to a ‘reading dog’ as a non-judgemental audience has shown to give students extra confidence and motivation, especially for those who struggle with reading. A special bond across the whole school was made with Digby.

Digby is in Gr. 3/4 Staley/Alexander on Wednesday and Thursdays. He also provides wellbeing to the whole school community by accompanying Mrs Jan Alexander on yard duty and supporting any student who needs some extra tender loving care. Digby supports staff wellbeing too. What a cute 2021 school photo!
